World Maple Capital

Located in the heart of the sumptuous Bois-Francs region, Plessisville is surrounded by a prosperous maple plantation.

The syrup makers process and commercialize this natural resource in their sugar camps where hundreds of tourists can experience a real sugar party any time of year.

The economic impact of syrup making and the many maple activities are therefore considerable.

Today, the Citadelle, a company of maple syrup producers, distributes and sells its products in more than 35 countries on the five continents. Technology and research allow the fabrication of quality products, certified by many organizations, such as l’Institut international du sirop d’érable and Le Regroupement pour la commercialisation des produits de l’érable du Québec.

Proclaimed the World Maple Capital in 1976, Plessisville has also hosted the annual Maple Festival since 1958. It is the second oldest festival in the province, after the Quebec Winter Carnival.

Since the municipality of Plessisville is located in the Appalachians, many mountains, lakes and rivers can be discovered close to the city. Those who love outdoor activities and nature can enjoy downhill or cross country skiing, fishing, camping, hiking, water sports or even taking a bike ride alongside the marvellous Bois-Francs bike route.
